Arsenal Fanshare scheme to close

Arsenal Fanshare scheme to close

AISA is disappointed to hear that the Arsenal Fanshare scheme will be closing. We have supported the scheme since its inception for a number of reasons. We entirely agreed with the view expressed by the Sports Minister:

“Arsenal’s proposal is an enlightened and forward looking way of doing this and makes it affordable for their fans to own a part of their club. Clearly it is for individual clubs to decide, but this is a model I’d like to see other teams explore.”

A key object of AISA is to “Encourage the Directors and Management of Arsenal Football Club to appreciate, value and welcome the support and participation of all Arsenal fans”. Fanshare has been a living example that the Club agree with that sentiment.

Whatever the reasons, the demise of the scheme reduces the opportunities, however symbolic, for most fans to have a direct stake in the Club. Arsenal have stated that they will:

“continue to maintain ongoing dialogue with our supporters through numerous forums. It is an important part of how we run the club.”

We welcome that statement and urge the club to put consultation with supporters at the centre of their decision-making processes.
